William Mitchell Fisher, Jr. “Bill”, 84. of Rio Grande , NJ passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. He was born on August 17, 1932 to William Mitchell Fisher, Sr. and Elizabeth Fisher in Pennsauken, NJ. He graduated from Merchantville High School in 1950 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1952. In March of 1953, while stationed in South Carolina, Bill married his teenage sweetheart, Peggy Thiel. In 1955, he was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal. After coming out of the service, Bill and Peg moved down to Wildwood where he worked with his Dad and later became owner of the Sinclair Gas Station at Schellenger and Atlantic Ave, until it was closed for urban renewal in 1969. Bill then went to work at the Cape May County Correction Center where he worked his way through the ranks retiring in 1995 as Under Sheriff. During his career, he attended many prestigious schools including the Correctional Management Academy in Boulder Colorado and the Institute of training in Jail Management which was sponsored by the National Sheriff’s Association. After retirement, Bill and Peg enjoyed traveling in their Winnebago where they visited most every state in the Country. Bill was very actice in the community joining many organizations where he held positions as President, Vice President and Treasurer. He is an exempt member of the Pine Ave. Fire Department, Byron Pennington Croker American Legion Post # 184, Cape May County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge # 7, Cape May County Chiefs of Police Association, New Jersey Wardens Association , American Correction Association, National Sheriffs Association, Marine Corps Association , USS Wright Association , New Jersey State Retired Police and Fire Association, South Jersey Blue motor home association and “Wit” Winnebago International Travelers Club. Bill is predeceased by his wife, Peggy and his son, William III ( Sue) and sister, Beth Waicus ( Joe ). He is survived by his daughters , Carol Fontannaz ( Thom ) , Donna Force ( Bill ) , son, Joseph ( Erin) and his companion , Carmela Pollatto, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Viewing 10 am to 11:45 am with a Service at 12 noon, Wednesday, November 16, 2016 , at the Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 119 E. Rio Grande Ave., Wildwood, NJ.
