William Stephan, 95, of North Wildwood, NJ, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 13, 2022. William was born in Camden on August 13th, 1926. He joined the Navy when he was 17, during World War II and served most of his time on the USS Acubens in the South Pacific. William met Darlene Bittner at a friend’s wedding in Philadelphia and the two were married on November 23, 1947. They had 3 wonderful children and enjoyed 74 blissful years until her passing in March 2021. Bill worked for the Philadelphia Railroad/(Conrail) until he retired in1988. He is a perfect example of the American dream. A product of the great depression, William was raised on the streets of Camden with his brother. After the war he came home and worked as a plumber with Darlene’s brother until he was hired by the Pennsylvania Railroad. He retired 30 years later and enjoyed retirement until his passing. William is survived by his daughter Debra D’Acqua and his son John Stephan, his 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 11AM this Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at St. Ann Church, 2901 Atlantic Ave, Wildwood, NJ. The viewing will be held prior to the mass from 10:00am - 10:45am. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lower Township, NJ following the mass. William was a devout Catholic. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Notre Dame de la Mer Parish.
