George (Butch) Schmidt of Rio Grande, NJ passed away on January 18, 2022. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He is survived by his daughters, Lori Tyndall (Roy) and Heidi Lovette (Joseph); brother, Fred Schmidt (Karen); and Susan Adelizzi-Schmidt (chosen daughter); grandchildren Andrew Tyndall, Elizabeth Cornelius and Emily Lankford; Lauren and Conrad Schmidt; Hannah, Jake and Alexis Lovette and great grandchildren Isabella, Ty, Lathyn, Jayme and Evelyn. He is predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 56 years, Betsy Schmidt; his son, Gary Schmidt; and parents Lillian and George Schmidt. Butch was a multi-talented pilot, entrepreneur and auto mechanic. As an aviation enthusiast, he held a private pilot’s license and served as a FAA Certified Aviation Mechanic and Inspector. Originally from North Wildwood, Butch owned Butch's Sunoco in Wildwood for 48 years. In Butch’s early adulthood he became a volunteer firefighter, helped with the local rescue squad as a diver, large recovery operations and civil defense needs. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Wildwood and the Ancient Secret Order of the Quiet Birdmen. Butch had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor and loved Big Band music and John Wayne movies.
