Floyd W. Speigel

Floyd W. Speigel, 88, of Wildwood, NJ passed away on January 11, 2023 surrounded by his children and wife after a brief battle with cancer.  Born in Philadelphia, PA he moved to and was raised in Wildwood graduating from Wildwood High in 1952.  He joined the Air Force in 1953 and was honorably discharged.  In 1955 he became a Wildwood firefighter, joining the Wildwood Fire Company and then becoming a career firefighter with the Municipal Fire Division.  He worked in many positions including Fire Official, Fire Sub-Code Official and Fire Chief.  He belonged to many local organizations including the Cape May County Construction Board of Appeals, was a board member for the Joint Construction Office of the Wildwoods (JCOW), Warrior 50 Club and many more.  In addition to being a firefighter he also was a mason by trade constructing many homes, motels and elegant fireplaces throughout the Wildwood’s.  His signature trademark was an empty can of Iron City beer left somewhere within the blockwork.  During retirement he would spend his winters in Hollywood, Fla watching over the boardwalk and tend bar during the summer months at the Firehouse Tavern.  He would often be seen riding his bicycle around the island enjoying the salt air and sunshine.  He is survived by his wife of 68-years Jacqueline, his brother Bob (Bonnie) of Vineland, seven children Floyd (Nola), Lucille Schubert, Jackie (Bill) Johnson, Chris, David (Cindy), Kym (Mike) Kravalis and Daniel (Andrea).  He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at St. Ann’s Church, 2900 Atlantic Avenue, Wildwood, NJ where friends may call from 09:00 to 10:45 am.  In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Wildwood Fire Company.   Condolences may be sent to ingersollgreenwoodfh.com
