Obituary of Mertis S Bixler
Mertis “Moe” Bixler, age 81, of Wildwood Crest, NJ, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born on June 15, 1943, in Lancaster, PA to the late Mertis Sr. and Marguerite Bixler.
Moe was a dedicated father, grandfather, husband, and friend. He grew up in York, PA until his family moved down the shore to Wildwood in the 50s. Moe was a graduate of Wildwood High Class of 1961. After high school, Moe joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC for four years. Following his service, Moe, Barb, and their two children moved in 1966 to York, PA where he worked at AMF. In 1970, they moved back to Wildwood Crest and Moe worked for over 20 years at South Jersey Hardware and Roofing until they closed in the 90s. He then worked for World Imports and worked summers at Russos in North Wildwood. Moe and his family spent many winters skiing in Vermont and the Poconos with friends and family. Those who know him know that Moe was an avid supporter of Penn State Football and all the Philadelphia Sports Teams but especially loved his Philadelphia Eagles. He was an Eagles season ticket holder since the 70s and was happy to see two Superbowl wins. In his later years, Moe enjoyed many walks and talks on the Boardwalk with his “Sunshine Boys”.
Moe is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Bixler (nee Sinn); children, Tracy (Rob) Lamey and Craig (Marianne) Bixler; four granddaughters, Hannah Lamey, Julia Bixler, Ashley Lamey, and Olivia Bixler; his brother, Steven (Jesse) Bixler; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents Mertis and Marguerite
A celebration of life will be held in the late spring. Details to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Lighthouse Church (https://tlccma.org//give.php) or Fox Chase Cancer Center (https://www.foxchase.org/giving/ways-give/donate-now).
