Richard Michael Schmidt, 57, of Cape May Court House, NJ, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025. He was a lifelong resident of Cape May County. Growing up in North Wildwood, Richie graduated with the Class of 1986 from Wildwood High School, where he was active in sports. He worked for many years at Sam’s on the boardwalk and was most recently employed as a Beer Tender at Cape May Brewing Company. He was an avid fan of the Eagles and Phillies and proudly supported all Philadelphia sports teams. Richie had a distinguished 26-year career with the North Wildwood Police Department, retiring as a Lieutenant Detective on December 31, 2013.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jacquelynn “Jackie” Schmidt; his four children: Richard Jr. (Tiffany), Zachary, Shayne, and Jaxon; his cherished grandchildren, Richie and Reed; his parents, Fred and Karen Schmidt; his sister, Brenda (Greg) Freeman; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church (Notre Dame de la Mer Parish), 2900 Atlantic Avenue, Wildwood, NJ 08260. A visitation will take place at the church prior to the Mass, from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Richie’s name to the North Wildwood Police Officers Association, 901 Atlantic Avenue, North Wildwood, NJ 0826
