Fred Schmidt, age 82, passed away on January 25th, 2026 while shoveling snow. Fred was born on September 24th, 1943 in Camden, New Jersey to George and Lillian Schmidt (Muldoon). The family moved to North Wildwood in 1948. His father opened a Sunoco gas station and Fred started working there when he was 12 years old. 

Fred graduated from Margaret Mace and then graduated from Wildwood High School in 1961. He then went to Wesley College in Delaware. He returned home and became a North Wildwood police officer and for 25 years worked two full time jobs. 

Fred and Karen (Strothers) were married in 1969 and he was the proud father of two children: his son Richard who passed away last year and was married to Jacquelynn Kane, and his daughter Brenda, who is married to Greg Freeman. He was the loving grandfather of Alex, Richard, Zachary, Shayne, Jaxon, Jessica, and Jillian and great grandfather to Richie, Reed, and Mason. 

Fred will be missed by his entire family and his many friends that he had over the years. In keeping with Fred's wishes there will be no viewing or services.  Condolences at ingersollgreenwoodfh.com
