Obituary of Richard P Fennessy

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Fennessy, Richard P., 75, of Wildwood, transitioned into eternal life on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. Born on August 30, 1948 in Philadelphia, his family moved to Levittown, Pa. where he grew up and went to school. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970, having spent 15 months in Germany. Upon returning to the U.S. he got married. He soon began his career in the radio industry, beginning at WBCB in Levittown, then onto WAMS in Wilmington, and his biggest and proudest accomplishment, one of the "Boss Jocks" at WFIL in Philadelphia for 6 years. Having then made the move from Philadelphia to living at the Jersey Shore, he began working at Lite Rock WFPG in Atlantic City as an on air radio personality and Program Director for 10 years. He also served as Program Director at WQXA in York, PA, and WCDX in Richmond, VA. Finally, he moved on to weekend air personality at KOOL 98.3 in Linwood, NJ where he stayed until just last year. Rich switched it up with his main career and began a new career as a Wildwood Communications Officer, or Dispatcher, where he worked diligently for 19 years. Upon retiring, he had always dreamed of driving the Wildwood tram cars on the Wildwood Boardwalk...just once. He was fascinated with them as a child when his grandmother would take him for a ride on the trams as a kid. His dream came true, as he was asked to not only drive them once, but to make it a full time seasonal job. He loved it more than anything! Rich was also a "Man of Malvern", having gone on to make over 25 retreats with the Mid May group. His other passionate interests included model trains. He would build elaborate train set ups each Christmas. Doo Wop music was a favorite of his and he was very knowledgeable in that genre. And there was his love of the Fightin' Phils--he never missed one game this past season.

Rich is predeceased by his parents, Richard and Marie Fennessy and his two baby brothers, Edward and Kevin. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol, his children Jennifer (Teresa), Holly, Richard, and Aubree (Joe), and his 9 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Maureen (Rick), his dear cousins Rich, Jack, Joe, and Eileen, his sisters and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Last....but not least...his very best friend, his Australian Shepard, Starla.
