Obituary of Marybeth S Farrell

Please share a memory of Marybeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Marybeth Scheing Farrell died peacefully, surrounded by the love of her two children, at her daughter’s home in West Wildwood, New Jersey, on January 1, 2025. Born October 26, 1955, Marybeth was the second oldest of five children of the late Frederick F. and Teresa (McLaughlin) Scheing. She was a proud graduate of Padua  Academy, undergraduate degrees conferred by University of Delaware, SUNY Albany, and Masters of Science in Nursing Education conferred by Drexel University.

Marybeth spent a life of service in nursing, caring for her patients as if they were her own family. She worked at various facilities in Wilmington, Delaware, as well as Cape May County, New Jersey over the length of her career. She also had the opportunity to teach pharmacology to nursing education majors and she found sharing her knowledge with others greatly rewarding. Like so many healthcare workers, she bravely worked through the height of the pandemic, which most certainly was challenging.    She officially retired in 2022.

Marybeth’s true joy was in her family. She adored her children and grandchildren and will most certainly be watching over them now. She was delighted by the birth of her first granddaughter, Rowan Farrell, in 2008 and reveled in Rowan following in her and her daughter’s footsteps as a current third-generation Padua Academy Panda. She was active in the lives of all of her 7 grandchildren, attending numerous plays, baseball games, and cheerleading events over the years as their biggest fan.

In her final years, Marybeth fulfilled a lifelong dream of residing at the Jersey Shore and became a permanent resident of West Wildwood. She was a devoted member of Notre Dame de la Mer parish and found joy in helping out with activities at her grandchildren’s school, Wildwood Catholic Academy. Faith had always been paramount in her life’s story, and Marybeth, an accomplished pianist and organist, spent many years in music ministry throughout her life in various parishes in Wilmington, Delaware.

She always stressed the importance of being a good person and doing the right thing, as well as the importance of pursuing education to make the most of the gifts  bestowed upon us. She had a soft spot in her heart for animals, and adopted many dogs over her lifetime, all of them given lots of love and attention as she believed they deserved.

Although she will be deeply missed by all those who loved her, it is a comfort to know in faith that she left this world to commune with her Savior in the light of eternal life. Her loved ones rejoice in the knowledge that this separation is merely temporary and await the day they will see her again in heaven.

Marybeth was predeceased by  her parents .  She is survied by her children, Kathryn "Kate " Dettrey (Robert) , and John H. Farrell V (Adriana), as well as her beloved grandchildren, Rowan Farrell, Nicholas Farrell, Myles Dettrey, John H Farrell VI, Maryn Dettrey,  D.J. Figliola, and Victor Figliola.  Marybeth is survived by her brother, Frederick Scheing and his wife Heidi, sister Catherine DeMaio and her husband Rocco, sister Anne Scheing, and sister Bridget Back and her husband David.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025 with visitation beginning at 10am at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church in Wildwood, NJ and a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Interment will directly follow the mass at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape May,NJ.
