Obituary of Anne Rugala

RUGALA, Anne (nee Herciga) of the Wildwoods passed away on October 20, 2017 with the great love of her two grandsons by her side.  Her husband, Paul, along with her husband’s sister, Martha, and her husband Anthony Polakas built and ran the Heart of Wildwood Motel, Joker Poker, and Pennyland for years.

Anne is survived by her only child, Paula Barnes, her grandson Jeffrey Barnes and his wife Christine along with her great grandsons Joshua and Jackson and her grandson Jason Barnes and his wife Honora along with her great grandchildren Harrison, Oscar, and Eleanor.  Anne is also survived by her brother William Herciga (Margaret), her sister Helen Darpino and her sister Lillian Fotiu (Thanos) along with many nieces and nephews.

Anne was predeceased by her beloved husband Paul and her devoted son-in-law Jay Barnes.

Anne was ahead of her time in so many ways. She walked six miles a day, had her own organic garden, composted and started doing yoga in the 1960s. She distilled her water. She fasted every Wesdnesday and kept a strict healthy diet. She never judged and always listened. She loved to read, sew, line dance, and sing. Her homemade pierogis were the best. Anne's favorite word was "beautiful" which she said as often as she could, especially when talking about her family whom she loved and cared for. She was a long-time member of the First Methodist Church of Wildwood and Wildwood Crest, NJ.

A Russian Orthodox Service will be conducted at 10:00 am Friday, October 27, 2017 at St. Peter Paul, 210 Hill Venue, Endicott, NY 13760, where friends may call from 9:30 am.
