Obituary of Helen M Yecco
Helen M. (Jones) Yecco, 89, of Deerfield Beach, Fla., and Wildwood Crest, N.J., passed on to heaven to
receive her eternal reward on Jan. 8 surrounded by her family in Ocala, Fla., after a brief illness.
Born in Philadelphia to George Bonsal Jones and Marie Kennedy Jones, she was a 1947 graduate of Little
Flower High School, Philadelphia, where she played varsity basketball and softball. After high school, Mrs. Yecco
worked as a secretary for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Labor, and later worked as a secretary
at Handmacher-Vogel, and also modeled suits for local stores. She also worked for the Philadelphia Water
Department for several years.
Helen married Peter P. Yecco in 1950, and they celebrated 64 years of marriage until Peter died in 2015.
Together they had five children: Kevin (Jeannine) of Wildwood Crest, Karen Yecco Murphy of Ocala, Fla.,
Kathleen Yecco Komec of Margate, Fla., and Kristina Moore (Michael) of Blue Springs, Mo. Their firstborn son,
Angelo, died as an infant.
Mrs. Yecco worked for Gallagher Insurance Agency in Wildwood Crest for 10 years.
A deeply religious woman, Mrs. Yecco was awarded the Bishop’s Medal of Honor for exemplary service to the
Catholic Church, was a charter member of Catholic Daughters of America, and served on the Camden Diocesan
Pastoral Council for 15 years. She was a past president of: St. Ann’s School PTA, the St. Ann’s Parish Council, and
St. Ann’s Ladies Auxiliary. She was devoted to the lay ministry of distributing Holy Communion as well as a reader
who proclaimed the word of God in the liturgical assembly. She served as ecumenical chair for the Camden Diocese
for 20 years, and was a longtime member and officer of the Wildwood Civic Club, EMD, an organization to which she
was also a junior advisor, and for which she served on the executive committee for the NJ Federation of State
Women’s Clubs. Mrs. Yecco served as the Pro-Life Coordinator for St. Ann’s Church, and was a member of the
Greater Wildwood Yacht Club for many years.
In addition to her children, Mrs. Yecco is survived by 11 grandchildren: Peter (Michele) Murphy of Seattle,
Wash.; Patrick (Lex) of Tallahassee, Fla., and Philip Murphy of Tampa, Fla.; Steven and Peter Komec of Margate,
Fla.; Peter, Marissa, and Cullen Moore of Blue Springs, Mo.; and Christopher (Steven) Yecco of Egg Harbor
Township, and Peter and Alexandra Yecco of Wildwood Crest.
Known to many as “Mother Cabrini,” Mrs. Yecco could often be heard exclaiming “Praise the Lord!” or singing
her favorite hymn, “This is the Day the Lord has Made.”
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Feb. 17 at St. Ann’s Church, Wildwood, where friends
may call from 9 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Cold Spring.
