Obituary of Emma Mae Merkel

Emma Mae Merkel (nee Birney) – 85 of West Wildwood, New Jersey passed away peacefully on January 25, 2018 at Cape Regional Medical Center with her family by her side. Emma was born on April 2,1932.  She is predeceased by her husband, Robert, parents William and Emma Birney, sister, Patricia Yankowicz and brother, William Birney. She was raised in Gloucester, New Jersey and later moved to Wildwood where she met the love of her life Robert (Bob) Merkel. They lived in Wildwood and eventually moved to West Wildwood, in the home they built together. She is survived by daughters, Patricia Hofmann, Donna D’Allesandro (Joe), Barbara Robinson (Anthony) and four grandchildren, Conrad Hofmann, Brittany Robinson, Morgan Robinson, Derek D’Allesandro and a great granddaughter, Makayla. Emma is also survived by her good friend of 51 years, Kathy Jones. Emma worked at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital for several years until she retired from Cape Regional Medical Center as their Medical Librarian.  Emma loved to play board games, cards and coloring with her grandchildren and great granddaughter. She could usually be found in her favorite chair watching Hallmark movies, cooking shows or HGTV.  Funeral services will be held 11am Tuesday Jan. 30, 2018 at the Ingersoll-Greenwood Funeral Home, 1201 Central Ave., North Wildwood, NJ where friends may call from 10 am.
