Obituary of Edmund H Hanker

Edmund H. Hanker 91, of Wildwood Crest, N.J. passed away on Thursday  March 1st 2018. Born in Philadelphia, Pa he has been a Wildwood resident for  the past 70 years.

He was WW2 Army Veteran  and a member of the Wildwood Lions for over 50 years.
He was also a Shriner and a Mason.

Ed came to Wildwood to be a partner with his brother Max when he was in his early 20’s. . They operated Neptune Gift Shop at Schellenger and the Boardwalk for over 30 years. Around 1950 they  bought Lee’s Card and Gift Shop between Cedar and Oak Ave in Wildwood and later moved to Oak Ave after Urban Renewal and stayed in business for close to 50 years.
During that time they also opened Plaza Card and Gift Shop at the Shore Plaza Motel On 26 th Street and the Boardwalk along with a second location of Neptune Gift Shop at Wildwood and the Boardwalk.

In 1983 they left the Boardwalk and Ed and his wife Eve opened Neptune Gift Shop on 96th and 3rd Ave in Stone Harbor. They were there in business for over 25 years.

Ed was an active member of Beth Judah Temple since he first arrived in Wildwood and a member of the Stone Harbor Chamber of Commerce.

Grave Side Service will be Sunday March 4th @ 11 am at Beth Kehillah Cemetery 6687 Black Horse Pike, Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
Shiva will be observed at Ed’s Home , 216 E Topeka Ave Wildwood Crest  on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm. Memorial Service will begin at 6pm.
