Obituary of Edgar J Garton, Jr
Edgar J. Garton Jr. (Easy Ed) of North Wildwood, NJ departed this life on Thursday, November 15, 2018. He was 83 yrs. old.
Born on September 10, 1935 in Bryn Mawr, Pa. He was the son of Edgar and Ida Garton.
Ed graduated from St. Thomas More Boys High School in 1953. He worked in Manager Training for F.W. Woolworth until 1954 when he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served 3 years. After the Marines Ed served 32 years in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. While serving, Ed worked for the Provost Marshal (PMO) at MCRD in Parris Island, SC for 3 yrs where he investigated all types of crimes committed on and off the base by military personnel. Ed also worked for the FBI Philadelphia Field Office while attending St. Joseph’s University.
Following retirement Ed was a loyal employee of the Recreation Department and the city of North Wildwood. He was a longtime member of the Greater Wildwood Elks Lodge #1896 where he was a Leading Knight and Chairman of the Veterans Committee. Ed enjoyed fishing, watching the Phillies and Flyers and spending time with his grandson.
Edgar was preceded in death by, his mother Ida and father Edgar, sisters Evelyn, Marion, Ida, and Dorothy,and brothers John and David. He is survived by his son Jay E. Garton, daughter Jennifer L. Holmes, her husband Tom Holmes and His favorite only grandson Jordin M. Holmes. Ed is also survived by his sister Mary Mattan along with many adoring nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am Saturday, November 24, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 2901 Atlantic Avenue, Wildwood, NJ 08260-4943. There will be a calling time from 10 to 10:45 am in the church
