Obituary of George P Forbes
George P. Forbes, 89 of North Wildwood, NJ, son of Agnes and William Forbes, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2019. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa and has been a local resident for the past 75 years. Mr. Forbes was a graduate of Wildwood High School and shortly after married his high school sweetheart H. Doris Forbes, nee Heston.
As a teenager, George worked on ice trucks and as a meat cutter at Shea’s Market. He purchased the market in the mid 60’s and held ownership until it was sold in early 2000. In his early days at the market, he also worked at the docks at night moving fish so that he could purchase a first home for his wife and two children, Sharyn and Bruce.
George also enjoyed weight lifting and entered competitions as a body builder through his early 20s. He continued working out and was a member of the Gym at 10th Street, North Wildwood. He also loved to ski and did so in to his 70s.
George loved his Lord and Savior and was a long-standing member and Elder of Central Bible Church in North Wildwood. He was respected and loved by many.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Doris, who currently resides at Crest Haven Nursing Facility. Also survived by his son, Bruce and daughter-in-law Darci and their 5 children – Holly, Katie, Shannon, Douglas-Ian, and Jacob. He has one living sister, Elaine Forbes Quarton-Boszak, sister-in law Rose Forbes (wife of deceased brother Howard), sister-in-law Beth Forbes (wife of deceased brother Raymond) and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Thursday July 11th at the Ingersoll-Greenwood Funeral Home, 1201 Central Ave., North Wildwood, NJ. There will be a George P. Forbes Memorial Service immediately following at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations, in his memory, be made to Central Bible Church, 123 East 18th Avenue, North Wildwood, NJ 08260.
