Obituary of Leonard R Gliwa
On Sunday September 22, 2019, Leonard R. Gliwa of Wildwood, New Jersey passed away. Born in Philadelphia, PA he has been a local resident for the past 35 years. Mr. Gliwa was a veteran of the US Army. He was retired from Philadelphia Naval Shipyard after serving 30 years. He was also a member of the American Legion.
Len loved the Jersey shore and would spend hours each day sitting on his Hudson Avenue corner porch greeting friends, family and neighbors with words of wisdom on life and living it well. He liked to garden and tinker around the house, always trying to make it a little better. In his later years many summer days and nights the mayor of Hudson and Juniper would strike up a good conversation over a Yuengling or two.
Len was preceded in death by his father, Matthew, his mother, Helen, his sister Jane, brothers Bernard and Robert. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Dorothy Gliwa nee Crowther. Four sons: Leonard (Caroline), Gary (Margaret), Gregory, and John. Three daughters: Mary Thresa Florio (Remo), Reginia Sweeney (Michael), Helene Cooper (Edward/Bub). Grandchildren: Danielle, Sean, Kaitlyn, Christy, Carrie Ann, Lenny, Brigid, and Gabrielle ; Great-Grandchildren: Sophia and Jackson. Sisters: Mildred Sarzynski, Mae McGovern, Elizabeth McNeill, Antoinette Magda, Helen Alegado, Theresa Decave, Patricia Gliwa, Caroline Gliwa, Christine Gliwa. Brothers: Joseph and John Gliwa and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
