Obituary of Marion F Mouklas
Marion Shivers Mouklas went to be with the Lord on 12/11/2019 at 9:15 am.She had turned 98 in July.
She was born in North Wildwood, NJ at the Margaret Mace Hospital to Lorenzo Brown and Georgie Rena
Shivers. At the time of her passing, Marion was one of the oldest Mace babies. The Shivers family were
fishermen and boat builders. They along with many of the other early settlers of the Wildwoods can be
considered town founders. Her Grandfather was mayor of Anglesea (before it became North Wildwood) and
her father was at one point the town Postmaster. She is predeceased by her husband, Alexander Mouklas,
a brother, Lorenzo Brown Shivers Junior and a sister, Eleanor Emma Gross.Marion lived her entire life
in North Wildwood and in fact, lived in the same home her entire life. The house has been in her family since
1895. She has seen the transition of her town from a fishing village with many first generation immigrants
to a world famous beach resort. Marion worked at an early age at the Wildwood Laundry before finding her
calling as a checker at the American Store (now Acme) on 1st and Central Ave. She later worked for many years
at the Acme on Pacific Ave in Wildwood where she became a familiar figure to those throughout the town.
During World War Two Marion assisted the war effort by becoming a “Rosey the Riveter” and working on the P-38 Lightning fighter.
Marion met her husband Alexander “Al” Mouklas while he was teaching gunnery for the Navy at the University
of Pennsylvania. They were married on August 25th 1956. Al and Marion had one son, Lorie, born in 1958. During the greatflood of 1962,
with Al finishing his Navy service in the Mediterranean, Marion was a ball of energy as she helped take care of
her family and neighbors. The flood had knocked out the heat in her house and Marion, with the National
Guard, moved her infant son, mother who was bed bound due to a stroke and her handicapped cousin to
her sister’s house nearby. She then spent hours with a pitchfork removing seaweed and rebuilding the
house so the power would never be lost again. The first fiberglass boat the family owned floated into the
yard during the flood and was never claimed. Marion was a long-term member of the First Baptist Church of
Anglesea where for a time she was the church clerk. Marion enjoyed fishing and was an avid craftsperson.
She was fond of knitting, sewing, cooking, growing tomatoes and working in the woodshop. Marion was
especially good at using the jigsaw and she would cut out intricate figures with it from cedar wood that she
would later paint and make into pins for her friends and family. Marion lived a good and long life and touched
the lives of many with her good spirits and generosity. She is survived by her son, Lorie. The Memorial Service for
Marion will be held at 11 am on Saturday the 21st of December at The First Baptist Church of Anglesea, 303
