Joanne Goetz (nee Costello) of Cape May County, New Jersey and formerly of Phila. Pa. passed away peacefully on February 6, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving family. Joanne was born in Fairview, New Jersey, into a family of Newfoundland Iron Workers and was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Costello. She is survived by her devoted husband Michael, with whom she shared over fifty years of marriage and was the loving mother of Michelle King (Fran) and Jennifer Goetz O’Malley (Bill); grandmother to Jacqueline, Meghan, Christopher, and Colleen; great-grandmother to Lucas. Joanne was the oldest of her seven siblings Leo Costello, Bettyanne Hurlbert (Derek), Maureen McLaughlin (Mike), Karen Bathe (Chris), and the late Linda Kallas (Bob), and Kathleen Costello. Survivors also include adoring nieces, nephews, and her many friends. Joanne was a proud alumna of Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She retired as an accounting supervisor from the City of Philadelphia following twenty years of service. Joanne enjoyed retirement and her many hobbies which included going to the beach, reading, bingo, dancing, decorating for the holidays, trips to Florida, spending time with family and friends, and was always willing to volunteer her time to support local organizations. She was an active member of the Cape May County Police and Fire Emerald Society and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. Joanne had a wonderful sense of humor and enriched the lives of so many. Relatives and friends are invited to her services on Tuesday, February 11th at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, 2901 Atlantic Avenue, Wildwood, New Jersey. A viewing will be held at 10am with a funeral mass immediately following at 11am. Interment will occur on Wednesday February 12th at Resurrection Cemetery located in Bensalem, Pennsylvania at 11am. Memorial contributions in Joanne’s honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, New York, 10001. Flowers are welcome.
