Obituary of Nancy B Karl

Nancy Bretz Karl, 73, passed away comfortably on June 8, 2020 after a monthlong battle with various ailments. She left behind a family that she loved and was very proud of: her husband of 49 years, Alva A. Karl, Jr.; her daughter Nicole Karl Ernst and her spouse, Joseph Ernst and their two children, Addison and Zachary; her son Adam H. Karl and his fiancé Christine. Adam has two children, Ava and Adam (“AJ”). She was preceded in death by her parents Thelma and Howard Bretz; however is survived by her brother Robert Bretz and his wife Karen along with their children James, Thomas, and Traci. Beyond her family, she has left behind a hell of a lot of wonderful Christmas decorations that are stored across multiple states. Her love of Christmas has been passed along to her children and grandchildren that will find joy in her memories along with decorations for the rest of their lives. She had a love of dogs, slot machines, the Wildwood Crest beach, planting flowers, starting projects to finish another day, a good margarita, and having an opinion on everything. She often used those opinions to either offer us advice, encouragement, wisdom, a history lesson, or a reminder that she was right. She was a voracious reader with an extensive vocabulary, including some random curse words; but would often end a sentence with a simple “whatever.” She enjoyed cooking and some baking, often to the point of testing the smoke alarms in the house as an indicator when things were done. We’ll think of her fondly and laugh every time the kitchen smoke detector goes off. She is already, and will be, sorely missed by all whom loved her. At this time, the family is waiting for an appropriate time to hold a service in celebration of her life due to the virus restrictions and her husband’s current medical condition.
