Obituary of John F Weis
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John F. Weis, of North Wildwood, passed away on Tuesday, July 14th . He was 88 years old. Born
August 30, 1931 in St. Marys, Pennsylvania, Jack developed a love of nature at an early age
inspired by camping trips with his dad. He also distinguished himself as a scholar and was
president of his high school class for four consecutive years. When it came time for college,
Jack’s choice was the United States Merchant Marine Academy, beginning a journey that led to
service in the Navy and experience as an engineer on ocean liners. When he finally came ashore,
it was to start a new life with his bride, Kate, in her hometown of Wildwood and begin a career
in Real Estate. Jack was president of the greater Wildwood Jaycees in the 1960s when exciting
things were happening. The club sponsored the Miss New Jersey Contest at Diamond Beach and
managed to convince the state officials to bring their annual banquet to Greater Wildwood. The
festivities were held at Zaberer’s. Jack was president of Rotary as well, but things were a little
quieter at their Tuesday night dinners at Neil’s. In 1969 Jack began a career in real estate that
lasted for 50 years. In all those years, he made countless friends and never hesitated to help
anyone who needed his advice. In 2009, the National Association of Realtors awarded Jack the
designation of Realtor Emeritus for 40 years of service. Continuing to enjoy this career, he put in
another ten years. Jack loved golf, yoga, and the great outdoors. His children will never forget
those overnight camping trips to Belleplaine and Chincoteague with Jack unflappable as he
corralled as many as 10 kids per trip. Some of Jack’s happiest hours were spent with friends on
the trails at Cape May Point looking for just one more life bird. When Jack sustained a broken
neck in 2017, his doctors told him he might have died. Fortunately for all of us, he made the best
of a tough situation and gave us three more years of memories. Jack is survived by Kate, his wife
of 62 years; his children: Betsy, John, Richard, Katie and Andrew; his grandchildren: Christine,
Julie and Gavin; his brother Don, and his nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held at St.
Ann’s Church in Wildwood, NJ on Thursday, July 23rd at 11AM. Donations in his name may be
sent to Cape May Bird Observatory at 701 E. Lake Drive, Cape May Point, NJ 08212. A celebration of Jack’s life will take place at a later date when life is normal again and the masks are off.
