Please share a memory of Jioacchino to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mattera, Jioacchino “Jack”, age 89, of North Wildwood, passed away peacefully at his home in North Wildwood on December 14, 2020. Jack was born in North Wildwood and was a “Mace” baby. He was predeceased by his parents, Jiacomo and Catherine (nee Neery), his loving wife Clara (nee Taglialatela), his son David (Marilyn) and his sister-in-law Christina Taglialatela. He is survived by his sons Jack Mattera (Tery), Matthew Mattera (Julie), daughter-in-law Marilyn Mattera (David), his grandchildren: Chad (Soyoung), Jared (Ashley), Kyle (Karylin), Caitlin, Gabriel (Mike), Elizabeth and his great grandchildren Yu-Jin, Yae-Jin and Abigail. He graduated from Wildwood High School, after which, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, and served during the Korean War. He then served on the North Wildwood Police Department, retiring as a Lieutenant after 25 honorable years. He went on to work for the NJ State Casino Control Commission as an inspector for 15 years, then retiring for a second time. During all of that, he could be found yelling at his sons, friends, and employees when the concrete truck pulled up, as he was the proprietor of Jack Mattera & Sons Masonry, a business he took over from his father, Jiacomo. In his senior years, Jack enjoyed working for the City of North Wildwood for many summers at the Municipal Boat Ramp, right up through 2018. Jack was a life member of the Anglesea Volunteer Fire Company and could be found almost every Monday night helping with Bingo. He was a lifelong member of Notre Dame De La Mer Parish in Wildwood and was a Fourth Degree Knight at the Knights of Columbus in North Wildwood. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish with his family and friends. He will most fondly be remembered as Dad and Pop-pop. Services will be private with a celebration of life to be held at a later date. Donations may be made in his name to the Anglesea Volunteer Fire Company, 201 New Jersey Avenue, North Wildwood, NJ 08260. Condolences may be sent to ingersollgreenwoodfh.com
