Dorothy (Dottie) Marie Doonan (nee McKenna) 81 of Rio Grande, NJ formerly of Wildwood Crest passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family.  Dottie was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1942 to the late William and Virginia (Howe) McKenna.  She has been a local resident since 1954.  In addition to her parents Dottie was preceded in death by her husband James W. Doonan, son Darren J. Doonan, sister Patricia Plom and brothers William and Dennis McKenna.

Dottie was employed for twenty three years working with Dr. Clayton Carr.  She then worked in the Emergency Department at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital (Cape Regional Medical Center) where she also served as a Union Shop Steward.

She enjoyed line dancing to the Doo Wop hits of her childhood and her favorite DJ, Jerry Blavat.  She was also a leader of the “Twins Club of Cape May County” in the 1980’s.

She attended Our Lady Star of the Sea in Cape May, NJ and was a graduate of Wildwood Catholic High School.

Dottie is survived by her children Steven McKenna (Tracey), David Cochran (Lori), Danielle Severino (nee Doonan), and Darryl Doonan, sister Virginia Tirri and brother Daniel McKenna. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11am Saturday March 16th at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Cape May, NJ where friends may call from 10 to 10:45 am. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Cape May, NJ.
