Obituary of Veronica H. Black

Please share a memory of Veronica to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Black, Veronica, Mary Helen (McCusker) , age 81, left this world on May 6, 2024 in Cape May Court House, N.J.

“Ronnie” was born on Feb. 18, 1943 in Cooper Hospital, Camden N.J. She was brought up in St. Pete’s

Beach, Florida, where from a very young age loved and excelled in multiple sports. She moved back

north in her junior year and she graduated from Allentown Catholic High School in Pennsylvania. She had

attended 4 different schools in 4 years.

She soon met the love of her life, Samuel J. Black and they were married at Saint Lawrence Roman

Catholic Church in Lindenwold N.J. in 1963. The couple settled in Stratford , N.J where they raised their

little family, spending 50 joyful years there. Summer vacations and any free time was enjoyed at their

cottage “Fair Winds In Anglesea”, in Anglesea N.J.

A homemaker as well as a working woman, Ronnie worked for Bell Telephone, Korvettes Dept . Store

and as a manager at Ski Mountain before her long career at the renowned Pine Valley Golf Club where

she retired as executive secretary after 33 years. Ronnie was a huge sports fan and she and Sam spent

many enjoyable hours watching their favorite teams play on tv. Another favorite pastime was cooking

delectable favorites for her family, who will argue that she was the best cook in the world. She was also

intensely proud to be an American and almost as proud of her Irish Heritage which was so much a part

of her life. The Hereford Inlet Lighthouse played an important part of her and her family’s life for many

years as well. Both she and Sam were members of the Friends of Hereford Inlet Lighthouse as well as

long time volunteers. Ronnie was responsible for chairing a team that published a highly successful cook

book, “Cooking With Friends”, that raised needed funds for the Lighthouse. Above everything else

though, family was paramount to Ronnie and there was nothing she was more proud of than her 5

grandchildren.

It was a very special and joyous day for the inseparable couple on Nov. 27th , 2023, when Ronnie &

Sam celebrated their Diamond Anniversary (60 years) Ronnie was challenged with some very serious illnesses

throughout her life  but her athletes  determination, her close knit family and her strong faith kept her bouncing

back good as new for many years, without any complaints. Towards the end of her life she received

Holy Eucharist every Monday at her home from the mother of 3 of her grandchildren, Donnamarie Sexton.

Ronnie is survived by her husband Samuel J. Black, her daughter Stephanie Lee Anne Robins (Bill),

her son Stephen J. Black (Kari) and her grandchildren Sammie Jo Robins, Stephanie Black, Rowan Robins,

Katherine Black and Mairead Black. She is survived by 4 siblings – Alyce Lindberg, Margaret Murphy,

Gareth Hyndman and Wayne Hyndman as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

She is meeting her other siblings Mary Jane Kochanasz & John McCusker in Heaven as well as her out-

laws (family Joke) Barbara McCusker , Paul Kochanasz, Charles Lindberg and Paul Murphy. Beloved

nephews William and John McCusker will also be greeting her. A holy Mass for Ronnie will be held on

Thurs. May 16, with visitation at 10am and Mass at 11.  Condolences at ingersollgreenwoodfh.com
