Obituary of Richard Michael Carroll

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Richard Carroll, affectionately known as "Dick," finished his final round on June 1, 2024, at the age of 84, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on September 20, 1939, in Sharon Hill, PA, Dick spent most of his life calling North Wildwood, NJ home.

Dick was a man of many passions, he found great joy in hitting the links, watching sports, and spending quality time with his family. So dedicated was he to his love of golf that he took a part-time job as a starter at Shore Gate Golf Club, ensuring he could spend even more time on the green. Known for his hard work ethic, he proudly owned and operated C&C Janitorial Services, juggling his business with the same skill he showed with a 9-iron.

Dick's love for golf was evident through his impressive five hole-in-one achievements, which he never let anyone forget, reminding them that lightning does indeed strike the same place twice—or in his case, five times. He was a walking encyclopedia of golf anecdotes, regaling friends and family with stories that often grew in legend, much like the time he was bitten by a shark.

Outside of work and golf, Dick was a man of his word, who enjoyed indulging in a good cigar and one of Gerty's famous Irish Coffees. He loved traveling, with Cabo San Lucas and St. Thomas being his favorite spots to practice his putting on sandy beaches. He also had a deep affection for Philadelphia sports, particularly college basketball teams like Villanova and Penn State.

Above all else, Dick cherished his beautiful wife, Gertrude Carroll who predeceased him in 2020. Their love and companionship were a testament to their lifelong commitment, and they were known to cut quite the rug together, especially on their many vacations. Dick is survived by his siblings Michael Carroll and Delores Bates. He was a beloved father to his son Richard "Rick" Carroll Jr. (Janice) and daughter Kathleen "Kathy" Paulsen (John). He was also a cherished grandfather to Eric Youschak and Kaci Youschak, who could always count on him for both wisdom, golf tips and wisecracks.

In addition to his personal pursuits, Dick was involved in the Delaware County, PA community as the head of the Carroll-Myers Open. A charity event he held dear to him for many years, proving that even in his leisure, he was putting others first.

As Dick approaches the 19th hole he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Relatives and friends are invited to Dick’s visitation Thursday Morning June 6, from  9:30-10:45 am followed by funeral services at 11:00 at the Ingersoll-Greenwood Funeral Home, 1201 Central Ave., North Wildwood, NJ .
