William James Lemon: A Life Remembered
William James Lemon, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on February 22, 1943, in Philadelphia, William was a beacon of kindness, strength, and dedication throughout his life.
William is remembered by his ex-wife, Linda Sauter, with whom he maintained a respectful and amicable relationship. He was a proud father to Louis Lemon (Shannon Lemon) and Susan Lashley (George Lashley), who will forever remember his unwavering support, wisdom, and gentle guidance. His grandchildren, Madison Lemon, Alex Lashley, Lily Lashley, Emma Lashley, and Beau Lashley, brought immense joy to his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
William began his career working for DuPont before transitioning to a notable role in the family business, where he excelled in cooking and bartending. His years spent at Johnnie’s Bar and the Midtown Lounge in the Wildwoods were marked by his dedication to his craft and his warm, engaging personality, making him a cherished figure.
A long-time resident of Wildwood and Cape May Court House, William was deeply embedded in the local area. Outside of his professional pursuits, he was a passionate collector and dealer of antiques and dignified junk. He spent countless hours exploring flea markets, estate sales, and auctions, always in search of unique treasures and historical artifacts. His expertise and enthusiasm for these finds were matched by his dedication to sharing his discoveries with family and friends, often delighting them with stories behind each piece.
William was also known for his vibrant social life, always throwing lively parties, enjoying nightlife, dancing, and playing bingo. His zest for life and joy in these activities brought him and those around him much happiness.
William was predeceased by his parents, Ione Lemon and William Thomas Lemon, as well as his sisters, Ione Schultz (Walter Schultz) and Elaine Caterini (John Caterini). He was also preceded in death by his aunt Edna Bojakowski and uncles Joseph Bojakowski and Clarence Gaffney.
He is survived by his sister, Bernice Rappoport (Bruce Rappoport), and his cousin, Joseph Bojakowski Jr. William also leaves behind his nieces: Lisa Schultz, Teresa DiFalco, and Corinne Caterini Wilczynski; and his nephews: Walter Schultz, Michael Schultz, William Caterini, and Steven Rappoport.
William’s warm smile, hearty laugh, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have been a part of his life.
A celebration of William’s life will be held on July 31, 2024, at Ingersoll Greenwood Funeral Home, 1201 Central Ave, North Wildwood, NJ. The viewing will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Cape May County Animal Shelter in William’s memory.
William James Lemon’s life was a testament to the power of love and hard work. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
