Jay was the best. So full of joy! Always encouraging and willing to help. We LOVED playing at Gloria's Saloon in Cape May. It was our favorite place. We have so many fond memories of Jay and being in Cape May. It was like a second home.
My favorite memory of Jay happened every Saturday night after we would pack up and I'd meet him up in his office to get paid for the week's performances. Jay would hand me a check and say "see you in church!" (He knew that we - at the time, would never set foot in church back in our rock n roll days!) That made quite an impression on me though. Now, I say that to my friends in the restaurant business to this day.(Now I attend every Sunday and have been a worship leader for more than ten years.)
Jay is missed but will never be forgotten. My love to the whole family.

It was 1970. I was a young guy who relocated from Philadelphia to Wildwood and got a job teaching 3rd grade at St. Ann's. Jay Barnes was the 5th grade teacher and Jay and his wife, Paula, welcomed me warmly. The picture that is posted captured his essence. The sparkle in the eyes, the smile, the infectious laugh. Jay was a character who will never be forgotten. The time I spent teaching with Jay was wonderful - he had a way with kids. Over the years I would see Jay sporadically, but it was always like I we had never missed a beat. He was easy to talk to...fun to be around. I loved seeing him on the Wildwood Baordwalk. He belonged there it seems - it was in his blood. I was shocked to read of his death. I will miss him. My condolences.

I will never forget Jay Barnes as my 5th grade teacher. I can still see him in his Hagar slacks parading in front of our class. It was when I first moved to Wildwood and he turned our to he good friends with my Father. He had a way of picking on me that made me feel like part of the group in a new small town. He made learning fun in his own unique way. He will he missed. Rest in Peace!!

I am deeply saddened to hear of "Coach" Jay's passing! Although I played baseball for Wildwood and we were competitors, he was always gracious, quick witted and complimentary, even when we won. Always with a laugh and a smile, Jay and my coach Lou Simonetti (good friends with Jay) will be with me forever. They were great years!

Dear Paula and family,
I am so sad to read the news of Jay's passing. He surely was bright light in every room he entered, and I have fond memories of the two of you when you were still newlyweds, coming to gatherings at my parent's home in Wildwood Crest. Please accept my deepest sympathies and know I will be thinking of you in the days ahead.
