Obituary of Jay H Barnes

Jay H. Barnes, of The Wildwoods, passed away peacefully and with great love while surrounded by his family on Monday, November 14, 2016. He was born in 1942 to Joseph and Margaret Barnes of Upper Darby, PA. He taught 5th grade at St. Ann’s School in Wildwood. He also coached baseball and taught driver’s education at Wildwood Catholic High School. He was a member of the Union League, the Optimist Club, and advocated for bar owners in the City of Cape May. Jay owned Wagon Wheel Flower, Gift, and Gourmet Shop. He co-owned and operated Fun Pier on the Wildwood Boardwalk and it’s infamous Boat Tag. He also owned that great bar in Cape May “Gloria’s Saloon”. Jay leaves behind his wife, Paula, of 49 years, who is the daughter of Anne and Paul Rugala. Jay is also survived by his two sons, Jeffrey and Jason, their spouses, Christine and Honora, his grandchildren Joshua, Jackson, Harrison, Oscar and his magnificent granddaughter, Eleanor, his loyal nephew Peter Franchville and his adoring 97 year old mother-in-law, Anne Rugala. Jay was a big light in everyone’s life. Everyone who knew him will never forget his contagious laugh, fun-loving spirit and overall presence. A memorial service will be celebrated at 11:30 am Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the Crest Community Church, 5901 Pacific Ave., Wildwood Crest, NJ where friends may call from 10:00 am.
