George Patrick Furey, Sr.

June 27, 1931 – March 16, 2023

George Patrick Furey, Sr., known to his grandchildren as Poppy, was an aspiring Beach Bum.  He was born in South Philadelphia to Robert & Elizabeth Furey (Nee McHugh) and retired to North Wildwood in the 1990’s.

He went to Southeast Catholic High School, spent his career working at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in the budget department while married the love of his life Marie Furey (Nee Donovan) known to many as Sis Furey.  Sis passed away in 2018.   Their marriage lasted 66 years.

He passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at the age of 91. He was greatly blessed to be surrounded by his family, in his own home, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s.  He kept his sense of humor until the last week of his life.  

He is survived by his 3 children George (Peggy), Michael (Doreen) and Marie, and his Granddaughters and Great Grandsons. He will also be missed by his Brother John and Sister Peggy as well as many Nieces and Nephews. 

He Joins his beloved wife Marie and Grandson Kevin in Heaven along with his Brother Bobby and Sisters Betty and Ann.

He will be laid to rest on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Cold Spring Cemetery in Cape May, New Jersey, following a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Wildwood, New Jersey. Friends may call from 10:00 to 10:45 at the Church. Mass will follow at 11.
