Wilbur R. Ostrander, 88, of Wildwood, NJ passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at his home. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he has been a resident of Wildwood for the past 75 years. Wilbur was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a Police Officer with the Wildwood Police Department for over 27 years, ultimately becoming the Chief of Police before his retirement in 1987. Wilbur also was a fire inspector for Wildwood and Wildwood Crest. He was a member of the Holly Beach Volunteer Fire Company for over 50 years. When he wasn’t working, Wilbur was an avid fisherman, a member of the Anglesea Surf Anglers, and a Trustee at the First Baptist Church of Anglesea. Wilbur is survived by his wife of 61 years, Arlene (née Mininger), his daughter JoAnne McGovern and her husband Philip, two granddaughters Kaitlin and Ryan. He is also survived by his two brothers Earl and Lewis, his sister Doris, as well as a large extended family of in-laws, nephews, and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents Wilbur J. and Elizabeth. Visitation will be held on Thursday July 13, 2023 at the former First Baptist Church of Anglesea at 303 Atlantic Ave., North WIldwood, NJ from 9:30 to 11:30 am with a funeral service at 11:30 am. Interment will be at the Veterans Cemetary in Cape May Court House, NJ. A luncheon will follow at the Surfside West Diner, 5308 New Jersey Ave, Wildwood, NJ.
